It’s fall again, a great time to slow down and enjoy slow living. How to romanticize autumn is somewhat different from how to romanticize your life in general.
There are so many activities unique to autumn. Don’t you just miss the pumpkin spice lattes that only come out during this year?
Take this time to savor the moments because everything will shift into winter themed as soon as Thanksgiving is over. You only have like less than three months to truly enjoy autumn.
Here is a long list of activities you can do to appreciate the fall time.

14 ways on How to Romanticize Autumn
Have an autumn picnic
Many people have Spring and Summer picnics, but what about a Fall picnic? They’re often more calming as fewer people are outside because it’s no longer summer.
Choose some fall colors like red, orange, brown, and yellow for your layout. I like to go to Trader Joe’s for picnic items because they have a ton of fall treats.
Get out your cookbooks and make something
If you don’t have any cookbooks, start with something very basic and has good instructions. If you know the basics of cooking, challenge yourself with some seasonal magazines in the stores.
I recently bought a pumpkin everything magazine. My family hates this season because I can’t stop making pumpkin dishes. I also go overboard with buying pumpkin everything at Trader Joe’s.
Things to bake:
- Pumpkin Pie
- Caramel Cheesecake
- Apple Pie
- Pumpkin Scones
Things to cook:
- Butternut Squash Soup
- Candied Apples
- Slow Cooker Chili
- Apple Cider
- Chicken and Dumplings
- Pumpkin Waffles
Read under a tree that has fall colors
This would be great to add to your picnic, especially if you are going alone. It’s just a different vibe to read outside in nature with the autumn vibe than it is in your house.
Go to your nearest library or bookstore and check out some fall-themed books to read.

Decorate your home
This is one of my favorite things to do is to decorate my home for the new season. I live in poverty, so I focus on small things like string lights, candles, and cozy blankets.
If you also don’t have a ton to spend, visit places like thrift stores or get creative with DIY with nature you find outside like leaves, sticks, pinecones, etc.
- String Lights
- Candles
- Pumpkins
- Fall Leaves
- Pinecones
Go for a walk in the woods
Do this one with others to be on the safe side. I don’t live near woods, but it always looked so cool with the mist or low clouds during this time of year.
It’s especially nice if you can get an Airbnb out there to enjoy the woods longer.
Drink some hot cocoa and listen to the rain
Hot cocoa is a must for fall. If you don’t drink hot cocoa, then coffee or tea could work too. I like to bring out my cute Fall mugs.
If it doesn’t rain in your area, you can use a projector or your laptop to listen and watch an ASMR ambiance video of rain. There are also many other ASMR ambiance videos of autumn.
Make an autumn playlist
I have a ton of Spotify playlists for every mood and season. Add different genres to your autumn playlist to listen to when you’re traveling for work or in a cozy location.
Wear some good headphones where you can clearly hear the sound.
Save an autumn wallpaper to your desktop and phone screens
Bring autumn everywhere. Get your favorite aesthetic Fall background and put it on your phone. There are even widget apps that you can use to change the design covers of your app to something else.
I spend a lot of time editing my phone to be the way I want it to be aesthetically.
Make your home smell like autumn
Scents are a huge part of fall. Bring the outdoors into the home because you’ll most likely be staying at home more in your cozy blankets. Add multiple candles around you.
Sometimes I don’t like to use candles because you have to watch them for safety. If that’s the case for you, you might want to try the autumn essential oils.
Sit in a cafe, listen to jazz and drink your pumpkin latte
I love sitting in Starbucks and drinking all their fall drinks. But what’s even better, is going on an adventure to a small cafe that has fall vibes too. They often have unique drinks of their own.
Bring a book to read, work on your homework or work here, or bring a friend. It’s even better if the cafe has activities to do. My favorite is when they have cats, books, or board games.
Play Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch
When the world was in lockdown, everybody was getting this game because of its coziness. There’s just something about Animal Crossing that calms you down.
They even came out with their own design on the Nintendo switch. It does not have the game included though, so you would have to get the game separately.
Have a Friendsgiving and play some board games
Have a potluck with your friends. Each one brings a dish and play multiple board games together. Host people at your house and create an inviting environment for them.
This time is important to spend more time with those you love and bring out your hosting skills. Try to throw multiple gatherings or attend some yourself.
A good mystery game for this season would be Clue.
Collect autumn leaves, make a pile, and jump in them
It’s okay to do things children do sometimes. Bring out your inner kid and have fun playing outdoors. You might have to find an area with a ton of big trees to do this.
If you have a pet dog, they would love jumping in the leaves.
Wear your gloves, sweaters, scarves, and boots
Go clothes shopping for the autumn season and wear things that make you feel cute. I love wearing things in layers and being super cozy.
It gets so cold later in the year, so wear more accessories like gloves and scarves.
